Lampley performs with O.A.R.

Richard Blatti, director of the School of Music, met with former Ohio State students who comprise the popular band O.A.R., along with current music student Jon Lampley (Jazz Studies ’13), who played back-up trumpet for the band during a recent performance at the Lifestyles Communities Pavilion in the Arena District.  Blatti (second from right) discussed music programs at the school and how best to prepare students for careers in music with (from left) Chris Culos (Political Science ’01), former students Jerry DePizzo and Benj Gershman, and Lampley.

O.A.R. consists of five members, four of whom attended Ohio State:  Marc Roberge (English ’01; vocals/guitar), Chris Culos (Political Science ’01; drums), Jerry DePizzo (saxophone/guitar), Benj Gershman (bass), and Richard On (guitar).

The band first came together while attending high school in Maryland.  The group then journeyed to Ohio State to attend college.  The past two summers, they have brought along two other Buckeyes to perform with them as a brass section:  Jon Lampley (Jazz Studies ’13) and Evan Oberla (Jazz Studies ’09).
