Assistant Professor — Music Therapy

Position Overview
The School of Music at The Ohio State University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Therapy starting August 15, 2025. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of teaching in higher education and a representative record of professional and clinical experience. The candidate will play a crucial role in the development and oversight of a new undergraduate music therapy program at Ohio State. The successful candidate will be committed to contributing to the intellectual and cultural life of the University, building a diverse and inclusive community in the School of Music.
Performance Objectives
- Duties include teaching of undergraduate courses in music therapy and other courses in areas of expertise, recruitment and advising of students, coordination and mentorship of students’ clinical work, curricular development, pursuit of professional scholarship, dissemination and publication of scholarly work, and service to the School of Music, the university, and the community.
- Program Development and Implementation: Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a new undergraduate music therapy program, including designing and innovating curriculum to meet accreditation standards and align with institutional and professional goals.
- Teaching and Mentorship: Teach undergraduate courses in music therapy and related areas of expertise, provide academic advising, coordinate students' clinical work, and mentor students to ensure successful preparation for professional practice.
- Research and Scholarly Contributions: Establish and maintain an active research agenda in music therapy, disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
- Service and Community Engagement: Participate in service to the School of Music, and reasonable service expectations to the institution and field per the expectations of tenure-track faculty.
Education and Experience Requirements
REQUIRED
- Master of Music Therapy and a record of three years of full-time professional and clinical experience or comparable part-time experience.
- Musicianship and performance competence in guitar, voice, and keyboard.
- Knowledge of current research-based clinical practices in music therapy.
DESIRED
- PhD in Music Therapy or a related field.
- Established research/scholarly agenda.
- Record of five years of full-time professional and clinical experience or comparable part-time experience.
- Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education.
- Additional training in specialized areas relevant to the position.
- Experience in curricular development.
- Experience in collaborative work with communities, professionals, and institutions.
- Evidence of commitment to build a culturally diverse intellectual community in line with Ohio State’s Shared Values.

Student Instrument Assistant
Department: Arts and Sciences | Music

This position is a customer service-oriented position responsible for providing information about the School of Music's Instrument Room policies and over the counter distribution of musical instruments to a diverse clientele. Students will be trained in the proper handling of musical instruments. Job responsibilities include stocking, tracking and maintenance of School of Music instruments.
Qualifications/Skills:
- The ability to listen carefully and communicate clearly with fellow staff and clientele.
- Some filing and file referencing required.
- The ability to occasionally lift large musical instruments such as basses and tubas (30–40 lbs.).
- Previous experience handling musical instruments preferred but not required.

Student Office Assistant

The Student Assistant will be responsible for general main office tasks. Tasks include copy/collate/staple materials and sheet music for faculty and musicians; sort and file general office paperwork; and fold, stuff and mail materials to general inquiries. The student will sort any incoming mail and distribute it to graduate students and offices. They will run errands to Key Control and other university offices, answer telephones, take messages, greet visitors, and assist staff members in the main office with various tasks as well as assist with audition preparations and event preparation. The student assistant will also work on special projects and assemble information on local Ohio schools.

Student Stage Crew

The School of Music, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks Students for the Stage Crew to join our team. The College values diversity and offers a supportive, open and inclusive community.
Qualifications — The successful crew member will have excellent communication skills and a strong desire to put forth your best to ensure that our audiences can have the best experiences possible. Training provided but some performance or backstage experience is a plus.
Primary Duties — Work as part of a team to provide technical and stagehand support for all School of Music student, faculty and guest performances and related activities.
Secondary Duties — Provide ensemble rehearsal set-up and strike support of chairs and music stands. Support the School of Music in other general ways as needed.
Experience Preferred — Background with music performance or theater support desired. Additional training opportunities available in live audio, lighting, video production and stage management.
The position involves flexible and varying work hours. Shifts can occur 7 days a week from 7 a.m.–11 p.m. and on some holidays. Employee scheduling is flexible and can be tailored to your schedule and availability on a rolling basis. Crew members can find themselves on stage in front of an audience or livestream broadcast. Lifting of 35 lbs. and climbing ladders can be required. Business-casual black attire is required. No open-toed shoes or sandals during stage calls.
