Can I Kick It Hip Hop Festival notice

This inaugural biennial festival — in honor of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop — is also intended to bring awareness of the developing Hip Hop curriculum in the Ohio State School of Music and Department of African American and African Studies. 

Our mission is to encourage the pursuit of Hip Hop knowledge, art, scholarship, culture and responsible leadership, by:

  • Bridging the gap between Hip Hop culture, critics, journalist, scholars, artists, community
  • Developing Ohio State as the premier institution that supports cutting-edge Hip Hop Culture scholarship and practice
  • Illustrating the interdisciplinary, economical value of Hip Hop within college campuses and beyond
  • Continuing the tradition of Hip Hop scholarship cemented by The Ohio State Hip Hop Literacies Conference

Open to college students and faculty from all Ohio State campuses.

It's FREE! Registration is required.

What to expect?

Enjoy panel discussions, live music and experience various elements of Hip Hop through hands-on workshops. 
 

Tentative Schedule

*12:30–12:55 p.m. — Registration/check-in

1 p.m. — Introduction to the Festival and the new Hip Hop offerings at Ohio State

1:15–4:15 p.m. — Workshops by Elements 

  • DJ with DJ O Sharp — Learn the skills behind being a successful DJ. What equipment tis needed and what are some basic elements of a good show? Try it for yourself. 
  • B-Boy with Trig — Learn the nature of being a B-Boy. Enjoy demonstrations of simple and more complicated moves. Then, give it a try.
  • Graffiti with P. Dubbz — What is the true nature of Graf Writing? What is a tag? Give it a try. 
  • Emcee with Nova  What does an Emcee do?  Learn the nature and skill of the artist. Learn about proper mic etiquette, breath control and more, then give it a try for yourself.

4:30–5:30 p.m. — DJ Panel: Mix Master Ice, DJ O Sharp, J Rawls, Dr. View

6–9 p.m. — Social/Networking event featuring Mix Master Ice
