WE are a robust community of self-motivated individuals with diverse interests, talents and goals. Individual goals and career tracks are taken seriously, and students receive a fine Ohio State University education both in their musical studies as well as the limitless wealth of opportunities, classes, resources and extracurricular activities that make up Ohio State.
Julia Yang
Visiting Assistant Professor of Cello
yang.7708@osu.edu
- Alma Maters: Northwestern University and New England Conservatory of Music
- Areas of Expertise: Chamber Music • Musical Entrepeneurship • Multidisciplinary Project and Concert Planning
- Founding member of the Merz Trio
- Upcoming appearances:
- Ohio State Faculty Chamber Concert • January 21
- Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major with the Ohio State Symphony Orchestra • March 4
- Merz Trio performs on the Vail Series at Denison University • April 2
- Fun Facts: Professor Yang is into all types of no- or low-caffeine beverages. A few favorites are anything Hojicha, and local kombuchas. For years, she has brewed her own kombucha, and GT's Kombucha makes an appearance backstage at every Merz Trio concert!
Cellists take private lessons with Professor Yang, perform in a weekly studio class, play chamber music and orchestra concerts with their peers, study music history, theory and aural skills. They also have the opportunity to bond socially and musically in CellOhio, a student organization led by Ohio State cellists that meets weekly for social events and music making (cello ensemble!).
If you’re interested in joining the Cello Studio as a music major, I encourage you to reach out, visit campus, take a complimentary cello lesson with Professor Yang, visit a studio class or an Ohio State School of Music concert, shadow a student and meet the cellists over a meal, observe a class and tour the music facilities. Request a visit.
