WGC Today

The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club, established in 1903, strives to connect and empower women, non-binary, and gender-fluid people interested in singing music in the treble range. Additionally, it has the distinction of being the first musical organization to appear in concert in Mershon Auditorium. The Women’s Glee Club membership represents a wide variety of majors and interests, with singers ranging from freshmen to graduate students. Members work to improve and expand musicianship through challenging and varied repertoire focused especially on works by women and BIPOC composers.

One of the organization's main goals is to grow in kinship and compassion through bonding and activism. Our partnerships with community organizations like Alvis and Huckleberry House link our artistry with needs in our community. Members of the Women’s Glee Club participate in a variety of on- and off-campus events including major conference performances, featured performances for concert series’ around the state, performing Buckeye tunes around campus on game days, caroling during the holiday season, and traveling to share their music. Additionally, The Women’s Glee Club aims to amplify historically underrepresented voices through engagement and music.

Women’s Glee Club is led and directed by Jordan Saul, assistant teaching professor of Choral Music Education. As an educator, Saul models not only current and relevant practices in choral pedagogy, but also student advocacy and service, further contributing to WGC’s advocacy for community evolution and cultural competencies in the arts.

WGC History

Our legacy as an ensemble is extensive and impactful. In 2024, under the leadership of Jordan Saul, WGC was honored to perform for the Ohio Music Education Association’s professional development conference. In 2015, under the leadership of Dr. Kristina Caswell MacMullen, the Glee Club hosted the three-day summit CONCEPT:Freedom in 2015, raising awareness about human trafficking in and around central Ohio. Under Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt's direction, the Glee Club was selected to sing for state and regional conferences of the Ohio Music Education Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Led by conductor Dr. Richard Schnipke and collaborative pianist Casey L. Cook, the WGC was honored to perform for the Ohio Music Education Association's 2013 professional development conference. The ensemble also sang for the Ohio Choral Directors Association's annual summer conference in June 2010, and released their first CD since 2003, A Jubilant Song, in spring 2011.
