Practice Rooms

NEW Practice Room Space Management System

In November 2024, the School of Music transitioned to a new space management system Mazévo. Microsoft Bookings is no longer in use.

  • This change applies to practice rooms in the new Timashev Music Building, as well as the general practice rooms on the second floor of the original building — Weigel Hall.

  • This change does NOT apply to special dedicated piano practice rooms in Weigel Hall. Refer to "Dedicated Rooms" information below.

  • You may reserve a room in Mazévo, up to 7 days in advance.

  • Percussion students — consult with your professor regarding dedicated practice rooms and schedule.

Practice Room Policies

  • Practice rooms in both the Timashev Music Building and in Weigel Hall are available by reservation only. Some follow different processes. See each section below.
  • Do not eat or drink in the practice rooms. WATER ONLY.
  • FOR SAFETY do not leave your personal belongings in the room.
  • Take your trash with you when you leave the room.
  • Health and Wellness — Use good hygiene practices when in the room. Wash your hands before and after use. The use of disinfectant wipes on practice room surfaces is also recommended.
    • Wind players — DO NOT release your water valve onto the floor. Please collect excess water on a paper plate, towel or other disposable item and dispose of it carefully in the trash container when you leave.
  • 15-minute rule — If a student does not show up for their scheduled time within 15 minutes, the room is forfeited for that hour and can be used by another student. However, if the student has reserved more than one hour, s/he can reclaim that room at the next hour.

Hours

Practice rooms are unlocked during regular building hours — 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Campus buildings are closed during university holidays.

Who may use Practice Rooms?

General Rooms in the Timashev Building and Weigel Hall

  • General practice rooms in the Timashev Building and on the second floor of Weigel Hall are primarily for use by music majors and minors, students in ensembles and taking private lessons.
  • Ohio State musicians (non-majors) wishing to use practice rooms for dedicated instrument practice may do so when a room is available. If a music major requests a room for their pre-scheduled time, non-majors must relinquish the space.

Dedicated Rooms in Weigel Hall  — for Piano Majors only

  • Dedicated practice rooms located on the second floor of Weigel Hall are for piano majors ONLY.
  • These are only available via a separate reservation process at the start of each semester, and can only be entered via key access.
